Description
What is Co-Amoxiclav?
Co-Amoxiclav Tablets are a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections. Each tablet contains two active ingredients: amoxicillin, a penicillin-type antibiotic that kills bacteria, and clavulanic acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor that prevents bacteria from becoming resistant to amoxicillin.
This combination enhances the effectiveness of the antibiotic, making it suitable for treating infections that may not respond to standard penicillin treatments. It’s commonly prescribed for respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections (UTIs), skin infections, dental infections, and ear infections.
The treatment provides a balanced dose for treating moderate bacterial infections and is typically taken every 8 hours (three times daily) for a prescribed number of days. Completing the full course ensures all bacteria are eliminated and prevents antibiotic resistance.
Co-Amoxiclav is suitable for use in adults and children over a certain weight threshold, depending on clinical need. It is important to take the medication exactly as prescribed and not to skip doses.
