Description
What is Codeine
Codeine Tablets are a prescription pain relief medication used to treat mild to moderate pain that is not controlled by standard painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen. Codeine belongs to a group of medicines called opioid analgesics, which work by blocking pain signals in the brain and spinal cord.
Codeine is also sometimes used to relieve coughing or diarrhoea, but when prescribed for pain, it’s taken at regular intervals rather than on an as-needed basis. Because it is an opioid, it must be used under medical supervision to reduce the risk of dependency, especially with long-term use.
Each tablet contains codeine phosphate. While effective, it may cause drowsiness and is not suitable for children under 12 or those who metabolize codeine rapidly due to genetic differences.
